FREEBIES: Adverbs, Adjectives, and Germs

Hello there… I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I know I enjoyed the beautiful weather we had for the past few days. It was great just being away from the unrelenting germs floating around my classroom lately. I’m sure you’re probably going through the same thing in your class right now.

You see the minute flu season hits around here the kiddos start dropping like flies. I mean the sniffles, coughing, and sneezing are CONSTANT! I’ve had kids miss 2 and even 3 days due to high fevers and sore throats. And even though I have a very tolerant immune system, it seems that during the week being exposed to these germs just makes me feel icky as well. My nose starts to run, my head gets that groggy feeling, and I feel like I'm catching what they have. However, when the weekend rolls around, and I’m able to breathe in some fresh air I start to feel 100 percent better.

Even though I L-O-V-E FREEBIES, germs are one type of freebie I’ll pass on… no thank you!

So, since it was the end of our grading period and many kids were out sick, I decided to review a concept that my students were still a bit confused on… ADVERBS and ADJECTIVES.

I began by using these posters I created to review adjectives and adverbs. (You can grab yours for FREE by clicking on either poster)

   Then throughout the next 2 days we read different books on adjectives and adverbs. However, my students favorite books by far were

and

 

While I read both books we webbed the adverbs and adjectives we found in our journals. We also discussed the questions they answered such as Which one? How many? How? Where? etc…

Towards the end of the week, I decided to have my students create their own version of The Adverb Farm. Since they had enjoyed listening to the book so much, I decided it could be a fun writing activity for my kiddos and a great way to assess if they really understood the difference between both.

That is how this was created…

 

(Don’t you just love the picture of the parrot with the bag of balloons. I know it’s hard to see but the cows are mooing as the balloons fall from the sky :0) How cute is that!

Didn’t they do a GREAT job! They had soooo much fun and the book turned out ADORABLE!
